I have just finished my 10-day 30-hour course today. I took my students
out for lunch. Now I can focus on doing research.
Next week I will be in Jiangsi and do some fieldwork in two very poor
villages. I will take the high-speed train there and fly back to Beijing.

You may be interested in my academic questions because they are about poverty and inequality in China.
I took my students to the best restaurant on Renda campus. It's not too bad. They have very delicious and new-tyle dishes. We had a very relaxing time after the intensive course.
I hope Uganda will return to peace soon. The Uganda people are peaceful, of good nature, and in fact beautiful. My proposal on Uganda received a very good score but the Congress will further cut the NIH funds this year so I don't know whether my project will be funded or not. If funded, I will be in Uganda for a duration of two weeks a year for three years.
My fieldwork site is Jiangsi, Shangyao (there was the notorious concentration camp that detained and tortured communists), Xinzhou (county). I don't know which villages at this point. A student will be accompanying me. The provincial Social Science Institute will be receiving me and arrange my visit. I was thinking of asking Huang ZhiQiang (our classmate who is a former head of Guangdong Agricultural Bank) to provide me an opportunity to meet with the local agricultural bank branch. I am interested in the local policy and practice of investment and lending to villagers by the government.
I just became used to Beijing's "water" and "earth". For almost 3 weeks, I was not able to eat much because I threw up and had persistent stomach and belly aches. Now I am a Beijing person!
